Add a Commentpersonally, I really hated this book. the format was extremely confusing: I kept on getting the different mothers and daughters mixed up. and I guess it's because I am also a chinese american immigrant, the book just didn't seem realistic enough for me. I couldn't relate to them at all.
Great book with intricate details about four second generation Chinese Americans and how their parents life affect them. Good read!
tan does a great job in making her reader interested in the life of not 1 main character, but 8 women's lives. i felt it was really poignant and i'd totally recommend anyone read it!
Tan's first book was OKAY. In my opinion, her other book called, "The Kitchen God's Wife" was A LOT better. Overall, the book was really random and it was really hard to keep track of who's who. Everyone seem to be the same person and had the same issues.
Amy Tan's first work. I read The Hundred Secret Senses and decided to look into this work, and it was a great novel. Stories from eight perspectives on various themes, centering around the relationship between mother and daughter. The stories jump around, but are well-worth the read.
I seen the movie and fell in love with it ... I figured that I would indulge myself in the book. Having already had an image of the characters in the story made it easy to read and worth the day and a half it took. To someone who has never seen the movie it may be harder to get into and the way the story jumps around between characters and past to present is confusing even for an established reader as myself. All in all .. it was good enough to keep me entertained.
