Summaries
Add a SummaryI just read a book called The Graveyard Book which is a story that follows a two year old boy's odd life until he is fifteen years old. During his life he is raised by ghosts in an abandon graveyard! Nobody Owens his the name the ghosts who adopted him gave him. This story describes his most amazing adventures.
A toddler walks out of his house and ends up in a graveyard. His recently deceased mother beseeches Mr. and Mrs. Owens, 500 year inhabitants of the graveyard, to care for and protect her son. The Owenses agree, and with the steadfast assistance of Silas, a shadowy figure who has the Freedom of the Graveyard, the young boy becomes the graveyard's only living resident.
Quotes
Add a QuoteQuotes From The Graveyard Book "There was a hand in the darkness, and it held a knife. The knife had a handle of polished black bone and a blade finer and sharper than any razor...if it sliced you, you might not even know that you had been cut - not immediately. The knife had done almost everything it was brought to the house to do and both the blade and the handle were wet... "
“I wanted to keep you perfectly safe,” said Silas. “But there is only one perfectly safe place for your kind and you will not reach it until all your adventures are over and none of them matter any longer.”
At the best of times his face was unreadable. Now his face was a book written in a language long forgotten, in an alphabet unimagined. Silas wrapped the shadows around him like a blanket, and stared after the way the boy had gone, and did not move to follow.

Comment
Add a CommentThis book may be written for a younger audience, but I HIGHLY recommend it for readers of any age. Neil Gaiman once again works his magic to tell the story of a young boy raised by ghosts and a mysterious undead guardian, in series of short stories so clever and wonderfully written, appropriately spooky yet light-hearted, they will easily impress the toughest critic. There's not enough I could possibly say about this book to get across just how much I love it, so take my advice and read it!
Loved this book!
Don't let the pictures fool you. This book is an awesome read, fantastic for all ages. It takes you into the world of Bod, and with each little adventure he has, it all helps to build-up to the ending. Which, I think was great.

Great Book!! Easy to read with amazing description that makes you feel like your a character in the book.
This is my all time favourite book! I know it looks like its for children but it really is very interesting to read over and over again, even if you are a little bit older. The story of Nobody Owens is very inspiring and I can see why it won a Hugo Award and a Newburry Award! I recommend this book for absolutely everybody! :D Plus it's a great way to get into Neil Gaiman literature! You can follow him at @neilhimself on Twitter! :D
One of my favorite YA books
I adored this book. I can't wait to read it again. It takes you into another world. It's also a bit of a mystery which keeps you reading until the very end!
Reduced to a short summary (boy's family is killed and he's raised by ghosts) the book could easily be seen as a downer, but it turned out to be quite sweet and nice. The ending made for a nice cap to an otherwise good read.
Absolutely stunning. One of those rare novels you want to climb inside and shut the cover behind you--forever.
