Add a CommentThough Anne does escape her harrowing ordeal, it still haunts her. If you have triggers for this sort of thing, walk away from this book. This book is very well written. Chevy Stevens has done well in creating a narrative that is both intense and unforgettable. I found the book hard to read and was unable to finish it. If dark, oppressive, and intense is what you like to read then this book is an excellent candidate for your reading list.
This is a very well written tale of intrique that is tough to put down and it is set in Canada! I can hardly wait for Chevy Stevens's next book.
This book was fantastic. At times it was very intense, and I actually had to take 5-10 minute breaks to process what I had read. The ending was a bit out-there, though.
This book was plain and simply fantastic. It was throughout very dark, very disturbing, and often times hard to read - but in a good way. Chevy Stevens use of a first person narrative ratcheted up the intensity of the storyline and she succeeded in having the reader become so invested in her main character that you feel like you're right there with her on the mountain. The twist at the end was both well conceived and well hidden. Looking back the clues were all there but just went unnoticed. That this was her first novel speaks of her undeniable talent. Can't wait for the next book!
It's a really captivating book with a lot of going on and a real deapth. The end was absolutely unpredictable :) I really liked it! Beautiful!
shawnigan lake writer great read
I finished this book in less then 24 hours and loved it. As disturbing as most of it is, it's a fantastic read. It's well structured and keeps you riveted right to the end. This is definitely on my to buy list.
citizen-best of 2010-debut novel -a woman is kidnapped and held in a cabin in BC for a year by a psycho even having a baby by him. Killing him she escapes and then.... the why of it all.
It is currently 7am, I have spent the last four hours of the late morning finishing this phenomenal book. This entire book is like those realistic horror movies that chill you to the bone, it's horrifying and completely captivating. To call it just a page turner doesn't feel like I'm giving enough credit due. It flowed perfectly and the end was sublime. Love this book to pieces and I adore that it's set in Canada since it's so rare for my usual reads to be set in Canada :D
I honestly couldn't finish this either as the story line was heading where I wasn't willing to go. I think if this had not been fiction, I might have been willing to go to the end.
