Add a CommentStudent of the Ostriches and a Dragon's Tale were my favorite stories of this book.
A marvelous, very enjoyable addition to her other books. I especially liked the story about the tree Numair turned into a man, and his matter of fact acceptance of the fact that the only person who would have anything to do with him was a young woman. As with all of her other books, I will be re-reading this one for years. I also hope Mastiff comes out very, very soon!
This was a highly enjoyable book. I liked reading about the familiar characters from the Tortall books, as well as new characters from both Tortall and the other worlds. While I think that Tamora Pierce is a bit better at writing novels, I still really enjoyed this book.
I absolutely love Tamora Pierce's writing! In this collection, I particularly like the story of Numair's children. Dragon's tale was also a good one, although I had to dredge up some preeety old memories from Wild Magic. I hope Mastiff comes out soon!
As always, Tamora Pierce's work is delightful to read. What makes this collection of short stories stand apart from the rest of her novels is the variety of writing styles that may or may not have been intentionally included in the stories. Also wonderful about, "Tortall and Other Lands," is that unlike many authors Pierce goes back to tie up some of the smaller loose ends in her stories. I hope I'm not alone, but I have always wondered what happened to the tree Numair turned into a man. One sad thing about this book is that many of them could very easily lead to their own series which probably won't happen.
