I was slow to appreciate this series, but quickly grew to enjoy it. It's a nice blend of comedy and drama (mostly comedy) with the Sherlock Holmes like English detective who doesn't want his posting in paradise, and the locals who would rather the pace of life stay on island time. Good characters and good plots.

We have enjoyed this series after happening upon the OETA appearance of Season 4. The series starts with the English Detective assigned to the little Caribbean island on a temporary basis. I think the other characters who are developed in Season 1 are the real stars as is the quite tranquil fictional island. We enjoyed this immensely. Glad the library has this series and we can't wait to watch others.

A very good series. Humourous yet interesting. The characters are very well-rounded. I really enjoyed it.

I found the pilot episode difficult to enjoy, but I quickly warmed up to the show as the season followed. By the end of the first season I actually found myself liking Richard Poole, a little. The real charm of the series comes from the other three main characters, Camille, Fidel, and Dwayne.

British Colonialism is alive and well -at least in this mystery series. The series is set in the fictional British controlled small Caribbean island of Sainte Marie. The main character is the British head detective of an investigative team. He is white, the rest of the team are not but are inhabitants of the island. He, of course, solves the mysteries. He does this by getting a strange look when all the clues come together and he knows 'who did it', this happens in every episode. The dialogue is trite and almost laugh out loud funny 'cause it's so bad. The music and scenery are great but do not compensate for this tired formulaic series. Anyways there are lots of great British mystery series now, Death in Paradise is not one of them.
