The Boy In The Black Suit does a beautiful job of touching the topic of grief and loss and how we go through these things almost all the time. This is a book that I connected to on a personal level with this book touching me and my thoughts and feelings about grief and loss. It begins with a boy named Matt who recently loses his mother and in his own way of dealing with his grief, wears a black suit. This book discusses grief, the way in which our lives change during times of loss, and the way in which people can find ways to cope. The romance is tender in a sense in this one, and its writing style was executed perfectly in my opinion. A beautifully well-written book. I look forward to reading more books from the author as this one made me appreciate and love this one. I recommend to anyone who is looking for a book to relate to a situation or have a connection with this type of topic or just looking for a gorgeous book to read. @PocketFullOfBooks22 of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

This book reminds me of the first time I read John Green, and even Margaret Atwood...

This book is so good and so special that I bought a copy for myself and share it with others who love good writing. Jason Reynolds is one of my favorite authors of all time.

This was the first book I completed in 2018 and I definitely connected with it on a personal level. Matt recently loses his mother and in his own way of dealing with his grief, wears a black suit. This book discusses grief, the way in which our lives change during times of loss, and the way in which people can find ways to cope. The romance is pretty tender in this one, and it sports Jason Reynolds' signature lyrical prose. Definitely a book I found myself easily relating to.

Matthew lost his mother to cancer and his father is in the hospital. He gets a job at the local funeral home, meets Lovey, a girl he likes. Through their honesty they discover they share an experience of a fateful night

A moving meditation on loss and mourning. A quiet character study. A slice of life.

Matt is trying to figure out how to move forward after the loss of his mother to cancer. High school no longer feels relevant and his Brooklyn neighborhood both grounds and nettles him. He stumbles into a job at a local funeral parlor, where he unexpectedly finds solace, a mentor, and a love interest. Gradually Matt works through his grief and figures out how to begin healing.

Realistic, tangible, and nuanced, this vividly captures lived experience.
