When Leroy "Chinese" Gordon and his friends break into a professor's lab at the University to steal pharmaceutical cocaine, they find a blueprint for throwing a large city into chaos. But how is the CIA to be persuaded to pay a suitable ransom unless someone actually uses the plan--throwing Los Angeles into chaos, for instance?

Add a CommentStill an outstanding read, and the best of Thomas Perry's novels. For the real events this novel pertained to, please do a search on Project Camelot and Project Troy [Google, CIA in double quotes space, then Project . . . also within double quotes]. Indonesia, Vietnam, Chile [exposed in Chile], seems to spread massive bloodshed, all because some humans held differing thoughts and attitudes? Also, look at Ford Foundation and Indonesia circa 1967, and don't be surprised at the players at that time.
The best and standout of all of Thomas Perry's books, unusual from his normal staid writing style, a highly entertaining and humorous read, thought provoking as well as interesting. (Perhaps his writing style in this book was unique due to the characters Perry may have come in contact with while he was teaching at UC/Berkeley while writing this novel????)
