There is a legend in Cornwall of a man who fell in love with a mermaid, a man who swam down into the sea one night and met his Mer love. He was never seen again. Sapphire knows the legend well. Her father disappeared at sea, and now her brother, Conor, keeps vanishing by the shore, too. Sapphy also feels the inexorable lure of the ocean, a temptation that reveals the truth of the legend and opens a beautiful world beneath the waves: the enchanted, undersea realm known as Ingo.
But there's a dark and dangerous side to Ingo, and Sapphy must face its power or lose touch with everything--and everyone--she loves on land.

The sea called her. Called her beyond the cliff, beyond the cove where dangerous rip tides lurk, all the way to the magical underwater world of Ingo. Where time doesn’t exist, where the Mer creatures share all their thoughts, and where Sapphire feels at home. Now, when Ingo is in danger from Sapphire’s mom’s friend, it’s time to choose: should she become Mer, and live a carefree life in the ocean, stick with becoming a human, or somehow be in between?

I loved this book. It was very well written and creative. The unique story plot with twists and turns will captivate readers and send them off to the world of Ingo. I loved the parts where Sapphire is in Ingo because Mrs. Dunmore describes this world as peaceful, comfortable, and welcoming which really gives the reader a feeling of home. Ingo is a great read for a tween looking for a creative novel.

Sapphire Trewhella's father suddenly goes missing one day during sailing off the coast of their home in Cornwall. After finding his boat, everyone proclaims him dead, but Sapphire and her older brother Conor are certain he's alive. A year later, Conor begins to disappear occasionally as well, and while searching for him one day along the beach, Sapphire meets a Mer boy named Faro, who draws her into the world of "Ingo", the alluring world under salty water. However, the Mer do not exactly hold humans in high regard, and Ingo turns dangerous when Sapphire's mother's new boyfriend, Roger, sets out to explore a place sacred to the Mer.

"But Saph, what else could we be but human? We've got a human mother and a human father. That makes us a hundred percent human. Why do you want to believe anything different?" ~ Conor Trewhella
