When horse trainer Annie Carson rescues a beautiful thoroughbred from a roadside rollover, she knows the horse is lucky to be alive...unlike the driver. After rehabilitating the injured animal at her Carson Stables ranch, Annie delivers the horse to Hilda Colbert-the thoroughbred's neurotic and controlling owner-only to find she's been permanently put out to pasture. Two deaths in three days is unheard of in the small Olympic Peninsula county, and Annie decides to start sniffing around. She's confident she can track down a killer...but she may not know how ruthless this killer really is...

This author knows her animals and interactions with police. The major event at the end caught me by surprise! I would have given the book 5 stars except for the post-major event material. I perceived the ending as a somewhat shallow transition section to the next book. I do intend to read future books by this author -- even if I have to ask CPL to initiate an interlibrary loan.

Even though this is the First Mystery that this author has wrote she has started what I hope will be a good new a very good new series. If you have ever been over on Washington's Olympic Peninsula you will know that some of her fiction helps the story and if you haven't it still keeps you wondering what's next. I personally hope that she writes some more stories with these characters in these stories.
