On their final worldwide tour and coming off her own triumphant tour, Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks has surprised fans old and new with her never-better onstage presence. She's a legend of rock, but her energy and magnetism sparked new interest in this icon. At 65, she's one of the most glamorous creatures rock has known, and the rare woman who's a real rock 'n' roller. Nicks' work and life are equally sexy and interesting, and Davis delves deeply into each, unearthing fresh details from new, intimate interviews and interpreting them to present a rich new portrait of the star.

I have always been smitten with Stevie and this was well-written. But, as is my wont, I followed up the reading with a Youtube cruise of interviews and found that much of what is online is in the book. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I would like to have realized that there was MORE in this book that Stevie hadn't said herself, but I don't feel cheated because (a) I didn't actually spend any of my own hard-earned money to purchase the book; and (b) I tend to focus more on what I read as opposed to what people say to me.

I picked up this biography because I am fond of Stevie Nicks' music, fashions and stage presence. I was hopeful to learn more about her mystical side, but this facet of her persona was not explored in depth. For an unauthorized biography, Gold Dust Woman gives plenty of background on Nicks' relationships and inspiration behind her songwriting.

This book is a light, quick read. At first it was interesting in learning about Stevie, Fleetwood Mac, and the music scene in the 70s and 80s. BUT, if you do any search on the book, you will find there are lots of errors, beginning on page 1 with the date of her birth. I don't know that much about Stevie/FM, but even I found several errors, like referring to JD Souther as very tall [he's not] or who wrote Because the Night ...

I then read a Rolling Stone article on 15 things you didn't know about the Rumours album, and several of them weren't mentioned in the book, and several others were different from what's in the book.

So, enjoy the light read, knowing that what you're reading probably isn't 100% accurate.

She rings like a bell through the night
And wouldn't you love to love her?
She rules her life like a bird in flight
And who will be her lover?
All your life you've never seen a woman taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven?
Will you ever win?
Will you ever win?
