Horror or reality ? This film is gently suggesting something to us . Ever lay in bed thinking about your dissatisfaction's in life ...
Other reviewers have made it quite clear that this film is sobering in the extreme . The world today is obsessed with youth ( thanks to the media ) and the scariest thing would be what might happen if the company that the main character goes to did actually exist . Maybe there's a reason this film hasn't been remade - it could be too close to home for the plastic surgeons out there .
It plays to people's desperate needs to have another chance at life , regain their youth - you cannot change what's inside you , though .
The term 'cult film' often is given to those that seem to make points that are hard to swallow or accept .
This is one such film but a label like that doesn't do it justice - it has a lot in common with 'The Manchurian Candidate' which was put together by the same director . Both films are creepy and make you glad you're watching actors .

a cross between Kafka and George Orwell, and filmed appropriately in bleak, and ominous, black and white - Rock Hudson is extraordinary, worth watching, as an Absurdist. very '50s, '60s antihero, all gloom, and moral incomprehension

I saw this when it first came out, and it had a profound effected on me.

(I just noticed that a very young Alec Baldwin is listed in the credits.)

I liked this DVD movie. The script was strong. It was slow moving. Violence is subtle enough children can watch the movie. The main story was about how to achieve your life's ambitions in an ethical way. The man in this movie took a short cut and paid the price. It was well acted. I like the actors.

First off - I would like to point out that (I thought) Rock Hudson's performance here in Seconds was certainly a mighty rare exception compared to whatever else this guy had done in the past. I'd actually go so far as to confidently say that Hudson's portrayal of character Tony Wilson was, by far, his most powerful and, yes, believable performance ever. (Hey! Like - Wow! I'm impressed!)

Anyway - Seconds (from 1966) is an expressionistic blend of horror, thriller and science fiction concerning man's obsession with eternal youth and the misplaced faith in the ability for medical science to achieve it.

As the story goes - Arthur Hamilton (John Randolph) is a middle-aged man whose life has lost its purpose. He has achieved success in his career, but finds it unfulfilling. Through a friend, a man he thought was dead, Hamilton is approached by a secret organization, known simply as "The Company".

The Company gives Hamilton the body of a young man (Rock Hudson) through experimental surgery.

A masterpiece. Possibly the most moving performance Rock Hudson ever gave and certainly his most fearless. Dazzling cinematography by JW Howe, who also lensed Hud. Way, way ahead of its time. Pre-AIDS, pre-Game of Thrones, panned upon release then neglected or disparaged by small minds for decades, yet so absolutely right for sensitive, observant, attuned souls of any era. Beautiful and terrifying are here synonymous.

You know, I thought that I would never say this - But the truth is - "I actually liked Rock Hudson in this movie." Yep-Yep. It's true. It does feel a bit weird saying something that I was sure I would never, ever admit. But, hey, there you have it!

Filmed in glorious black and white, Seconds is a unique Sci-Fi/Thriller (from 1966) that plays out very much like a super-creepy episode of The Twilight Zone. With a nicely balanced mix of horror, neo-noir, and even psychedelia thrown in for good measure, one can't help but be intrigued by this tres' unusual drama.

In some ways, Seconds is a truly remarkable piece of filmmaking. I guess because of the bizarre nature of its story it was not a popular film upon its initial release back in 1966. But, regardless of that, I guarantee you, Seconds is definitely worth a view, if not for anything else, but, to see that stud-muffin, Rock Hudson, put in a credible and worthwhile performance for a change.

Captivating, paranoid sci-fi thriller. Like a classic episode of Twilight Zone. Fantastic cinematography. Rock Hudson goes out of his mind, brilliantly.

I enjoyed watching Rock Hudson, such a hunk in his younger years. The story? I just can't recommend it. I think the story is weak, but, if like me, you want to see Rock Hudson, this will please you.

when I began this business, I was a young man with an idea. I wasn't aiming to make a lot of money, helping others... helping them to find a little happiness. Heck, not just the rich. I thought eventually... I got tremendous comfort in the thought that, in my small way... I was waging a battle against human misery... and I was too. Except we do have a high percentage of failures. I guess that's to be expected... but it hurts me. Some reborns make a go of it. We're always working to find ways to improve the system. Yeah, we make mistakes. The fact is, when our clients first started coming back here... I wanted to chuck the whole thing, but I couldn't. The organization was pretty big by then. ...

He was a quiet man. The thing I most remember him for were his silences. It was... as if he were always listening to something inside... some voice. He never talked about it, so I never knew what it was. He was a good man... but he lived as if he were a stranger here. He never let anything touch him. He became absorbed in things, his job mostly. He worked hard. He became more detached and... Always a look around his eyes as if he were... trying to say something. I don't know what. Protest against what he'd surrendered his life to? I never knew what he wanted... and I don't think he ever knew. He fought so hard for what he'd been taught to want... and when he got it, he just grew more and more confused. The silences grew longer. We never talked about it. We lived our lives in a polite... celibate truce.

Now, there is a problem that the circumstances of your death... must be simple. A simple accident, strangely enough, is costly, Mr. Wilson. The trick lies in obliterating just so much and no more, so that... an identification still can be made based on... as I say, general dimensions... plus a credible sequence of events. Witnesses, et cetera. The whole thing must be very carefully staged. We guarantee a death of this kind. ... Now, there are any number of ways you can be found. Excuse me. I mean, your body can be found. The victim of some kind of machinery, an explosion. A hunting misadventure. Oh, but I think these are somewhat too gross for you. I had thought perhaps a hotel room fire.
