Coroners are not pathologists and therefore comparing the series to the American TV drama Quincy is pointless. Furthermore, comparing it to series from Australia and New Zealand is like comparing apple to orange.

I agree with Laura Steinert - Interesting but not compelling.
Since it was titled "The Coroner", I was hoping it would be like a modern & British "Quincy'. No dice. Disappointed. I tried for a few eps, but just couldn't get really involved.
I wish the Brits would take some cues from American mystery/drama/procedural shows. I've tried a good number of such from Britain, but they seem to be just the same - interesting, but not compelling.
Oh well.

Soon into the series, became clear that there won't be dark creepy but lightweight death cases for our corona who lived with her hippie mom and teen daughter in a civilized coastal community, no cuss words, not even the adjective "bloody" that is ubiquitous in British crime drama. Bonus was the Cornish locations, stories that moved along and concluded in under 45 minutes. Understand that BBC has cancelled S3 production.

The episodes are interesting but not compelling. Three generations live in the same house--a hippie grandmother, the being punished for something, sent down polished Coroner, and the slightly out of control granddaughter who is leaning more toward her grandmother's lifestyle than her mothers. The married ex-boyfriend does not really create sexual tension, as was intended I think, but he would be fun to be around ans is a good friend and verbal sparring partner. The cases are standard fare, but the writers have managed a few twists and turns that make then interesting. This is not as good as the Janet King series or as funny as Brokenwood Mysteries.
