From Ellie Alexander, beloved author of the Bakeshop Mysteries, comes the first in an intoxicating new series: Death on Tap .

When Sloan Krause walks in on her husband, Mac, screwing the barmaid, she gives him the boot. Sloan has spent her life in Leavenworth, Washington becoming an expert in brewing craft beer, and she doesn't have time to be held back by her soon-to-be ex-husband. She decides to strike out on her own, breaking away from the Krause family brewery, and goes to work for Nitro, the hip new nano-brewery in the Bavarian-themed town. Nitro's owner, brewmaster Garrett Strong, has the brew-world abuzzwith his newest recipe, "Pucker-Up IPA." This place is the new cool place in town, and Mac can't help but be green with envy at their success.

But just as Sloan is settling in to her new gig, she finds one of Nitro's competitors dead in the fermenting tub, clutching the secret recipe for the IPA. When Mac is arrested, Sloan knows that her ex might be a cheater, but a murderer? No way. Danger is brewing in Beervaria and suddenly Sloan is on the case.

Really cute first book of a new series, as of January 2019 still only a trilogy. IT is lovely to have something written about the PNW and this really sells Leavenworth as a beer drinkers destination instead of the "Christmas All Year Long" town that has long been it's draw.

Ellie Alexander makes every effort to meet all the different cozy criteria. We get clothing descriptions, how to make delicious food suggestions (including a list of salad and soup ingredients. long passages about her cooking, but no actual recipes), scenic descriptions, brewing information (some of which I suspect is not accurate), the evil / horribly dressed / ghastly makeup wearing / universally hated town bully, and two too many men for a woman not yet divorced. A fun 5 1/2 hour read.

Excellent new cozy mystery series!

A pleasure to read despite a slightly rough start. I loved learning about brewing and the industry, as well as getting to meet the quirky characters of this unique little town. I have high hopes for Sloan. The mystery was a little weak for this novel, but I think this novel has laid the foundation for an excellent series.
