Within the walls of a tasteful, perfectly kept house in North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains, young Zane Bigelow feels like a prisoner of war. When one brutal, shattering night finally reveals cracks in the façade, Zane begins to understand that some people are willing to face the truth, even when it hurts. As he grows into manhood and builds a new kind of family, he will find that while the darkness of his past may always shadow him, it will also show him what is necessary for good to triumph.

My first Nora Roberts novel. A real saga about the lives affected by domestic violence. A beautiful setting with enough suspense and crime to keep be interested.

A nice easy thriller. It feels slightly less cookie cutter than the typical Nora Roberts thriller - there's a fair bit of character development, however I found Darby's storyline was a little underdeveloped.

I love NR and I did love this book, but it was pretty predictable

Love all her books but this one jumped around with multiple people, times, villains, etc. making it my least favorite to date. Sorry to make any negative comments, but this is not up to her usual high standards.

This NR book is better than the last one. It has four parts. Part one and three are good. Part two seems rushed as the author doesn't really develop the female character as she does the male, which is a shame. The character of Darby is a bit forced in to the story, when she is introduced. The last section, could be from anyone of NR's books. Even the dialogue has been recycled, which is too bad as part one was quite good. Overall decent read.

This was a better read than NR's previous book. The plot was better put together, and NR didn't get overly hung up on interior design. I adore how both characters grew into their relationship and their relationships with the people around them.

The last part of the plot did feel a little bit rushed, but overall, a decent read.

Zane Bigelow and his sister seemed to have the perfect childhood. But things are not as they appear. When Zane tries to protect his sister, his father and mother turn on him. HIs aunt and a cop believe him and they go to live with the aunt. When he grows up and becomes a lawyer, he decides to come back home. He meets a lady who he falls head over heel for. Later on his father comes to get his revenge on the ones who he says turned on him. This book is the type of book, I could not put down. It had me feeling sad for the children and then happy for the way they turned out. I really like this book very much.

Review excerpt: "I love Nora Roberts’ romantic suspense books. I schedule time off around release dates. I was so excited when 'Under Currents' was released because I assumed it would be a slam dunk for me. Unfortunately the pacing and the plot of this book felt so disjointed that it was difficult to enjoy. Rather than having several plot threads woven together, the story resolves them consecutively, like ticking boxes off a checklist. The result is that the tension is almost constantly disrupted and my reading experience was really uneven."

This was a very good book!!! Excellent look at family, and spousal abuse and the aftermath of living through it and rising above it. Well worth the read. Nora Roberts at her best.
