Four frustrated college girlfriends (Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine) plot to fund their best spring break ever by burglarizing a fast-food shack... but that's only the beginning. During a night of partying, the girls get arrested and are unexpectedly bailed out by Alien (James Franco), an infamous local dealer, who takes them on the wildest spring-break trip in history.

I did not like this movie at all. Bratty broads. Good cast, annoying characters.

The imagery and colours of the film are surprising; it often looks like a music video; the cinematography is quite good. The plot is okay: there is a surprising twist at the end, but on the whole it feels unfinished because the two other characters who went home just disappeared from the story, and the consequences of the first robbery were non-existent and the last significant event (the plot twist at the end) is also consequence-less.

Horrible, I know why you are borrowing this movie and it really isn't worth it. The filming reminds me of watching an old 80's movie and the storyline is stupid.

Total waste of time. No plot. Just stupid stuff as a vehicle for toplessness.

If you like his movies you'll like this and think it's genius. I think all of his movies (aside form Kids which turns out he had very little to do with) are pretentious, self indulgent, cocaine induced hipster candy. Franco (who I like and think is a good actor and funny in general) comes off as an over acting clown, like an SNL skit. Not believable at all. Super cheesy. This movie ultimately tries too hard to be shocking, extreme and avant garde it's distracting.

In this film young women flee from their university education to the Florida coast in order to engage in the American ritual of the spring break bacchanal. This is a film devoted to booties and titties and Western culture's fascination with thug life. The female student protagonists are gangsta prodigies who end up forming a bond with a low-level dope dealer/rapper/stick-up man played with depth and nuance by James Franco. The whole picture is an obscene hallucination, which is Korine's specialty; but this is not to say that it is without merit. It is actually, in its own way, an understated and quiet movie; it reminds me, because of it's editing technique, of Steven Soderbergh's THE LIMEY (1999). Korine is making an important point about base materialism. Our liberal "democratic" consumer capitalist culture creates its own destabilizing Taliban ("students"), acolytes of excess who dream of violence.

This needs to be watched as a gleefully nihilistic satire.

Love it hate it or both. I still can't decide. I love that it was so completely out of the box and upturned all expectations of what this film would be. Hate it because it was an artistic experiment by the film maker and he frequently lost sight of the whole. This will only fully appeal to a specific few who love art films - but also don't mind copious drugs, violence and tits. There "seems" to be much said with this film but not anything concrete - like, isn't hedonism stupid - because it ultimately isn't about anything. The film-maker said he tried to make the film like a piece of music - and I think in that he succeeded. Recommend only for film nerds but seeing some of his previous work might help.

Candy-colored candy flowing across the ‘screen’ (delete the structure). Mostly pre and post. Preparation on set and put it together in edit. --- Kind of what I’d do. This guy is at his highest and most confident visioning this play of sensibility. ---– Transmutes human errors with utmost amusement. ---- As to the drama element there are some flaws here and there that could have been eliminated w/either a few quick reshoots or in editing. Once in a while Franco slips out of trance because of ad libs. The gun sucking sequence was too glib I thought, however fun it was. I would’ve liked it more subtle, in league with the subtle strains of the sequences. In a seemingly outrageous flow subtlety was ever-present. --– The indulgence in indulgence could have been helped with an even shorter film (1:33) but it does do the Warhol thing. I thought the relative unattractiveness of the girls helped this effect (even though it most probably wasn’t on purpose?). ---– A most amazing talent doing great things w/video. A man after my own heart; very much what I’d do, have done with audio. ----- I’d like to see Korine go even further away from plot since he doesn’t seem to need it. The styles had flaws since he was see-sawing between guerilla filming and aesthetic editing. He needs to see this and work at focusing. ---- And not get so giddy (or high?) with all the stunned people around to lose this focus. If he relaxed a little more the vision would be more in ‘harmony’ with the process of getting there. --– A true ‘wild man’. ----- Steve Jobs would love the candy colors so delicious!
