If "Take Shelter" is really supposed to be considered great movie-making - Then - IMO - The film industry is in mighty big trouble.

I don't know how any of the actors in this picture could've kept a straight face, delivering their absurd lines in this cinematic rubbish.

And, speaking about actor, Michael Shannon - I have to tell you that this guy really gives me the creeps, big-time.

C'mon, now! Surely this demented, little "Dizzy Daddy" story was (in reality) supposed to be regarded as a black comedy - 'Cause I honestly can't imagine anyone (in their right mind) taking this truly laughable "prophecy" nonsense at face value. I can't.

And, speaking about the likes of serious mental illness - Is Take Shelter's story actually telling me that I'm now supposed to accept the apocalyptic-based nightmares of a delusional one with a straight face? And, with that - I should now start building my very own underground shelter (like - Pronto!) in preparation for the day?.... Ha! Spare me!

Initially, I had sat down to watch "Take Shelter" with some very low expectations. And, even in that state of mind, this $5 million fiasco-film went well-beyond being grossly disappointing on all counts.

This movie was ok. It was not what I had expected! It is not as good as it could have been. The acting not very good and the movie seems to be missing alot.

Very slow moving film. I was wondering what the point was. This movie got better as it went along until I thought it was quite interesting.

i can't really add anything new to the previous comments. but i do want to repeat very good acting. i've become a fan of michael shannon since watching him in "99 Homes" (one of the main reasons i wanted to watch this movie)

Acting was good. Everything else. Blah. The script tried too hard to be clever, when in reality, it was too slow. Way, way, way too slow. I don't care what the director or writers had in mind, it was painful to see the main character going through his 'episodes'. They were obviously trying to make the movie seem about some psychic guy predicting a coming cataclysm. It dragged to the point where I just wanted to fast forward to the end. No matter how it turned out, it wasn't worth the teeth-pulling misery the director put me through.

Very good.

Good film/photography work, but the storytelling is a bit long and, for me, a little too ambiguous.

like watching an accident happening in slow motion, very, very unsettling

Jeff Nichols' amazing film, part psychodrama part social metaphor, is rife with contemporary angst. In fact fear seems to saturate every frame as Curtis obsesses over his family's security, his personal health, and an uncertain future punctuated by ominous portents that only he can see. The film's visuals are arresting and the intense performances uniformly excellent but, given the its overall sense of mounting tension and paranoia, the thundery climax comes across as a bit too tidy...and then Nichols plays his ace. In what has to be one of the most enigmatic codas I've seen in some time he pulls a small cinematic coup which forced me to reinterpret the preceding two hours yet again. I like it when a director does that!

Dewart: "You've got a good life, Curtis. I think that's the best compliment you can give a man; take a look at his life and say, 'That's good'."

Curtis: (to roomful of shocked neighbors) "You think I'm crazy? Well, listen up, there's a storm coming like nothing you've ever seen, and not a one of you is prepared for it."

Curtis: (to roomful of shocked neighbors) "Sleep well in your beds. 'Cause if this thing comes true, there ain't gonna be any more."
