Regina Case the lead actress held this movie together. She deserved an acting award. Without Regina playing the maid this movie would have tanked big time. It was a bravura performance. She kept me watching.
A very enjoyable film. Well acted and a great story.
This presents a different take on being a mother and earning a living. I was not sure if this was a cultural thing - but the fact that a mother would leave her young daughter for 10 years to go be a caregiver far away for someone else's child seems unusual. I had trouble accepting this premise. Is it common in Portugal? Was it common at some time? Or is this just one woman's way of dealing with her life?
An excellent film highlighting the divide between those who are served and those who serve.
A wonderfully lighthearted comedy that manages to skewer middle-class foibles without the usual vitriol and sarcasm. In the role of Val, Regina Casé delivers pure comedy gold!
good depiction of the intergenerational mis/understanding of not stepping out of your 'station' in the server society. chilling use of the words 'almost a part'...
this is Brazil - but it could be anywhere where the wealthy rely on the invisibility of servants.
A good film about the class system in Brazil; well-acted.
This is a quiet film with warmth and unexpected humor. Regina Case is superlative.
A quiet kind of movie until Jessica, the housekeeper's daughter, comes and stirs things up. Good film!
A nice story about mothers love - it think it was a great film
