the play ponders whether human beings truly appreciate the precious nature of a transient life. And because birth and death seem inevitable, the most important stage of life is the middle one: the quest for companionship, friendship, and love.

"Our Town" candidly expresses the brevity of life. Life is too short; everyone is guilty of worrying over silly little things and spend too little time appreciating that which they should. Once we arrive at the end destination, death and whatever may come after that, we will all find that we have not cared as much as we ought. Thornton Wilder conveys these ideas in a way that is both heartwarming and bittersweet, reminding the audience to appreciate life as it is. Through the story of Emily Webb, George Gibbs, their families, and the inhabitants of Grover's Corners, New Hampshire we see the beauty and pain of ordinary life. I had read this book in highschool as part of the curriculum and hated it, but now as an adult who has found her own love and her own place in the world, I finally understand and feel the message behind the simplicity and timelessness of "Our Town".

I really love this play! It is a blend between morals and the simple life of an american town. I love the way it shows every detail of people's daily life, their perspective about love and marriage and how they deal with death. It made me feel that life is wonderful and we should know the meaning of every second while we live it. However, I would recommend reading it while or after watching the Broadway play in order to visualize the complex details.

"Oh earth, your're too wonderful for anybody to realize you. Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it -- every, every minute?"
