This is one of King's "better" "bad" efforts. By his own admission the book tries too hard, however, the story is still a good read and there's enough creepiness to go around.
This was a stellar read. I truly believe King needs more eccentric and strong woman leaders in his novels.
I highly recommend picking up Desperation next....has a good tie into this one.
A surprising change for Stephen King using a female main character and dealing with the issue of spousal abuse. One of the few novels where he actually did reasearch by contacting various help agencies to fully understand the issues, causes, effects, and solutions. Some of the characters reappear in Desperation and Regulators, which adds to character depth.
