23/07 - This was a sweet, light and slightly amusing romance. There was almost no sex - some kissing, some groping and minor nudity and then the scene would fade to black and cut to afterwards. Considering some of the sex scenes in her Cynster books this was surprising, but what was more surprising to me was how unbothered I was by this absence. Once I realised that the 'sex' wasn't going to go much further than what you might see on an M rated tv show I accepted it and enjoyed the light-heartedness of the story. I guess sometimes I like a bit of light-hearted romance, without all the angst and pain that the more hardcore romances involve. When I started the book I thought it was going to be the beginning of a quadrilogy revolving around the Twinning sisters. I was a little disappointed to find that what could have been a good series of books had been squashed into one short book - it's not even the length of a normal romance at only 282 pages (the first 5 being the blank front pages and title page). Because we had to follow the four sisters and each of their rakes we didn't really get to focus on any one couple for long enough. Even Caroline and Max didn't get enough of the story, and they were supposed to be the heroine and hero (I suppose that's why Laurens' cut the sex scenes short, if they had been complete there'd have been no time for an actual story). If you enjoyed Lisa Kleypas' Wallflower series then you will probably enjoy this, but find it too short as I did.
