SHANNON MCKENNA write a book that didn't deliver on any level. All of Miles mental ramblings and whining in the Initial third of the book was really awful. Reading about a tortured hero was enough, but I didn't need to be tortured too. The crisis was predictable, the psi-stuff annoyed me endlessly. Hopefully this is wrapped up, and this nonsense is over...that is what ruined the the book for me. Why give Miles all that power? All of a sudden he is superman. For me he is not the alpha male of this series. The alphas and the main stars of this series is the McCloud's and lets not forget my kick -ass chick Tamara who is right up there with all those guys. I was a big fan of Miles. In the earlier books I felt sorry for him, he was treated so badly by Cindy. I wanted him to get is own story, he deserve to have one, but what a disappointment. Miles was portrayed very different from the Miles we've seen on page throughout the series. There was something just off about him. I remember Miles as being the geeky computer nerd who grew up, gained some talent through training with the McClouds and had the makings to be, not necessarily an alpha hero, but a nice leading guy. He just read so differently to me now and yes, the experiences he goes through at the end of One Wrong Move change him, but he didn’t seem like the Miles we’ve come to know. I guess I wanted to see more of nerdy Miles, from how he was written, I always had him pegged as really confident behind a computer, but maybe not so much with women, based on his past unhealthy obsession/relationship with Cindy. But with Lara, he’s kind of dominant, declares her to be his and completely takes charge in the bedroom. (while reading the sex scenes I laugh so hard I had tears coming down my face) Here is a guy who was only getting a little sex from a chick who was only doing it for attention or whatever reason, suddenly is the king of everything. It just felt out of character for me, and I’m sorry, but anytime a heroine is rescued after being held and tortured for months, and then she has mad, passionate sex with her hero just hours after her rescue, I just shake my head. Nothing about their relationship really worked for me. Lara, for being held like I mentioned, seems to bounce back very quickly with no ill effects of her capture and even though she and Miles have “known” each other in their minds prior to his rescuing her, they hop into bed and into a relationship in no time and I just didn't buy it. It didn't read as sexy, and I wasn't intrigue after reading about their sex scenes. I never felt connected to their relationship and it ended up being a letdown. I miss her earlier books which were more about the characters themselves and less about their super-crazy mental abilities.
