Visually stunning film, beautifully directed and photographed. Real sets, buildings and people. Strangely lush and romantic score by the very talented Angelo Badalamenti. Also, very graphic and gruesome, yet often touching and emotional. The director, obviously, portrays the Russians in a favorable light. The truth is that Russia was as brutal and savage as Germany. But Germany invaded Russia, so that's how the story is told. Acting is predictable, except for Thomas Kretschmann as Kahn, who is outstanding. English dubbing is ridiculous and unnecessary. Worth seeing, as is another great Russian film, "12." Beats Hollywood any day.
