Yawn! - Like, Hello!? - Was this so-called "horror" movie really supposed to be scary?? Was it!? In my opinion The Shining's dud-factor clearly comes from the obvious flaw in Stanley Kubrick's directorial abilities. That's right.... Put plainly, Kubrick just did not understand the genre of horror. 'Cause if he had, then The Shining would have been a brilliant classic of modern-day horror. And it wasn't. It didn't help matters much that actor Jack Nicholson was cast in the lead role. Like some sort of demented comedian, Nicholson went right off the wall at near warp-speed and this, alone, spoiled the element of suspense and terror completely. Yes. The Shining did deliver some mighty eerie moments, but the overall effect of horror was, ultimately, a pretty dismal one..... If you ask me I'd say that this film was one of the dullest "shinings" that I've ever seen.... Yep. A very forgettable film, indeed.
