Released in 1945 - This "rags-to-riches" Joan Crawford vehicle is a classy Chick Flick (about a devoted mother who goes to the greatest lengths to satisfy her selfish, snotty, teen-aged daughter). It packs a considerable-sized bite when it comes to its dramatic story-telling._____ Tears. Joy. Tragedy. Betrayal. Revenge. Mildred Pierce's well-crafted story immediately pulls the viewer into its tangled web of deceit and double-crosses. And it retains that compelling grip right through to its final, climatic twist-ending._____ Filmed in b&w, Mildred Pierce featured a first-rate cast headlined by Jack Carson and Ann Blyth._____ Joan Crawford's performance as the title character won her an Oscar for "Best Actress"._____ This picture was adapted from the novel of the same name written by James Cain whose other notable works included - Double Indemnity and The Postman Always Rings Twice.
