Although I usually am not a fan of male authors writing from a female perspective, this novel worked for me. I don't know that Jazz speaks from a female perspective, my willingness to suspend disbelief allowed me to move on. Jazz harkens back to Heinlein's Podkayne of Mars;, it would not surprise me if this was an homage to that work. The setting seems to be a logical extrapolation of the world today, and I liked Weir's style of explain the science as he moves the plot forward. I found myself laughing at the persistent dialogue of teenage boys, even when spoken by females. This is a fast paced science fiction thriller which compiled me to read it as fast as I could. Weir has grown as a writer, although this work may appeal more to YA audiences than those elitists who may be slumming from their usual literature reading because of the popularity of Weir's first book.
