Danny Kaye was 38 years old and incredibly gifted when it came to accents and speech. Not a bad looking guy by anyone's standard. I would love with movie if I were a child. But I'm an adult and think it more burlesque and slap-dash humor than anything really entertaining. Danny Kaye just never came across as anyone you had to take seriously. Yet, Kaye was straightforward and didn't rely on an irritatingly nasal and juvenile behavior like Jerry Lewis did. Maybe audiences in the late 40's and early 50's needed this type of movie. World War II as less than 10 years removed and there probably was national PTSD.
